Author's note:
The main part of this story happens several hundred years after the main storyline in the comics so it is alternate universe completely.
Snow fell gently and covered the world with a soft white blanket. It was the time of peacefulness - or boredom, depending on the point of view.
The Guardians - minus Athair - slouched on the seats in the conference room.
Another beautiful sunrise - but unfortunately no one in Haven aside of those in front of the surveillance screens could see it since the Guardian's base had no windows.
Standing on the snowy hill, Lien-Da watched the bustling activity in the town below her. It was a freezing cold evening but still nearly all people of Echidnaopolis were outside busy with the preparations for their festivity.
Thunderhawk was the first who was up this morning. He wished that he could have slept over the whole day but unfortunately the hammering pain in his head had ripped him out of his sweet numbing sleep.
Slowly Lien-Da regained consciousness. She blinked a few times but all she saw was darkness. Unbelievingly she wanted to rub her eyes but something held her hands behind her back in a tight grip. String was painfully scuffing over her wrists.
Loneliness. Since he was gone she felt it quite often. Of course there were still her friends and the other members of the Dark Legion but no one of them could ever fill the hole Iskander had left.
Kaya-Na looked at the clock. It was 2 am.
"We shall do what?" the Guardians asked in unison. They couldn't believe what Spectre just had suggested.
"As I said", Spectre replied, "it might do us a world of good if we took a few days off.
The cyborg screamed in pain. It felt as if his internal organs were burning and his head exploding. He threw himself against the bulletproof glass of his cage but couldn't break it despite his strength.
The two doctors stood outside and watched him with mild interest.
I slowly have to (re-)learn not to make every single fanfic based on another one of my fanfics so this one finally is a stand-alone and I hope I keep my promise and won't make a sequel. Other Lien-Da/Xenin fanfics might follow but hopefully not based on this one.
Early autumn, Y3247
The first fallen leaves whirled around her when Lien-Da climbed up a hill close to the edge of Angel Island. Rutan had been left in Kaya-Na's care, besides he was still too young to understand.
Her destination was the giant stone plate on top of it.
"You could have changed your clothing style at least for this one trip. It's embarrassing if one of the Grandmasters runs around looking like a dominatrix, especially if she's my sister", Kragok teased.
Spectre climbed up a small path to the top of a hill at the edge of Angel Island. He could see the ocean on Mobius Prime and if he turned around he had a good view over the Island. During his childhood he often came here. But now he hadn't returned to it for decades.
Autumn just had started and on most parts of Neopia there still were a few warm and sunny days. The floating island however showed typical autumn weather at its best - a dull grey sky and rain. Garven Hale was walking through the wet streets of the Darigan Citadel.
Stumbling Tandrak ran through the corridors. He pressed his hand against his mouth. If he didn't he else would have vomited. Or started to cry.
"Hey, Shaye, what the heck...
The smell of sweat and blood was in his nose when Spectre slowly regained consciousness. Every single muscle in his body was hurting. When he opened his eyes he saw darkness around him.
It was just the beginning of the Month of Gathering, normally still a very warm and sunny time but not for the region of Terror Mountain. There it always was freezing cold, not to speak of the regular snow storms.
Tandrak Shaye was walking through the bitter cold but calm night.
Insects were chirping in the bushes beside the street. It was another warm evening in Altador. Garven Hale was wandering up and down the place before the team quarters and didn't stop until he saw the Darigan Gelert approaching him.
"For a land of sun it's rainy quite often", Tandrak muttered, tilted back his head and looked at the grey sky. There was just slight drizzle but a moist fur didn't feel that much better than a wet one. "What a great start..."
"Aw, don't be such a pessimist.
